Gisèle Maillet-Guimond was born in 1957, in Richibucto, New Brunswick Canada.

She grew up close to the sea, where every moment was a stepping stone forward, a sensitivity that she will later on transfer to her creations.

Living close to a cliff, overlooking the sunrise on the sea, with a distant view of Prince Edward Island, she learned to pay close attention to details.

When she was studying in high school, she worked on drawing eyes. She once told her teachers, who noticed her talent, that "the details, in simple things, fascinate me; especially the eyes."

After high school, she chose the career of aesthetician which includes providing beauty care! This concept of what is beautiful is also applied to the creation of all sorts of objects.

One day, she bought canvas and acrylic paints. Without any experience or courses, she tried a first painting - an eagle - because she admires this bird species. She started with the eyes and the rest followed. She was fulfilling her long-time desire to paint.

She registered in a few drawing classes in the area but in this first period, she called herself a self-taught artist.

Gisèle in her studioFrom that point on, she produced paintings that appeared in various exhibits trhoughout the province. People are amazed by the realism in her works.

In order to develop, she wanted to know some masters. She registered with Norma Roy and Betty Labauve from Louisiana for a course which she took in 1990.

In 1993, her exhibit in Saint-Antoine included paintings of bird species and landscapes from the region.

Here are some of the descriptive words used by the visitors: "Marvellous", "Magnificient colours", "Serene", "So realistic that they look alive".

A few years later, she met Barbara Doery, an accomplished artist renowned for her portraits. Gisèle would become her student. At this time she decided to expand her horizons. Her being needed to express her knowledge, her feelings, her soul; to learn art by various means, processes, and skills.

A few years ago, these two ladies started working on the creation on one of the walls of the dining room at the O'Leary Inn in Richibucto, New Brunswick. This nine by nine feet mural depicts a part of the town's history by displaying the life of one of its first entrepreneurs; Henry O'Leary (1836 - 1897). This painting aslo depicts a deep-thinking Mr. O'Leary. It is a must see. You can conclude that Gisèle's talents are various.
